Panasonic NCR 18650 PF what are the advantages for Lithium Cells

Panasonic NCR 18650 PF is a high power and energy density lithium battery cell. What does high power or high-performance mean? The cell is rated at 2700mah but typically supplies 2900mah and sometimes more. Panasonic first developed lithium batteries in the early 80’s, soon becoming a leader in the supply of lithium primary cells for the photographic market. In 1994 Panasonic developed lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries and since then they have been market leader in technological change and progression.  

The Panasonic NCR 18650 PF has passed UN38.3 standard. UN38.3 is an international standard relating to the safe transportation of dangerous goods. Batteries and cells have to be robust and safe to pass these tests.

Batteries are tested under 8 conditions

1. Altitude Simulation: This test simulates air transport at low temperature

2. Thermal test: This tests cell and battery seal integrity and internal electrical connections under rapid and extreme temperature changes

3. Vibration: Simulated transport vibration test

4. Shock: Tests the robustness of cells/batteries against cumulative shocks

5. External short circuit: This test simulates an external short circuit

6. Crush: Tests simulate mechanical abuse from an impact or crush that may involve an internal short circuit

7. Overcharge: Evaluation of cell or battery’s ability to withstand overcharge

8. Forced discharge: This test evaluates the ability of a cell to withstand a forced discharge

Panasonic NCR 18650 PF is a Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide cell which has a cathode that contains cobalt. Although the NMC cell has lower capacity than some of the other chemistries, NMC cells have a high capacity power and cycling rate they are ideal for E-bikes power tools and electric vehicles.
