Stop Start Technology – The benefits
In a nutshell, the main reason for stop start technology is to reduce CO2 emissions, reducing your fuel consumption, and of course, saving you money.
Do you require a Stop Start battery?
As technology advances, more and more new cars are being fitted with stop start technology. You may not even realise your car has stop start technology. If the engine stops when you stop, and if it restarts when you start to move, then it is very likely it is stop start. If in doubt contact your manufacturer or us at County Battery.
Choosing a battery
In terms of Stop Start technology, there are two types of battery. AGM- (Absorbent Glass Mat) and EFB - (Enhanced flooded battery). If your vehicle is already fitted with an AGM battery, you should only replace it with another AGM battery. However if your vehicle is already fitted with an EFB battery, then it may be replaced with either an AGM or EFB battery.

AGM and EFB Batteries – The cost
AGM and EFB batteries contain much more lead and are significantly more technically advanced. Only a select range of battery manufacturers can provide a battery completely compatible to vehicles with stop start technology. The extra money spent on a stop start battery may seem daunting, but the money saved on fuel will surpass this cost and then some.
Stop Start Technology - What not to do
Under no circumstances should you fit a traditional lead acid battery to a car with stop start technology. Naturally, as the traditional lead acid battery is not built to withstand constant starts, the battery will only last a couple of months before breaking internally. Also, some electrical components on the car may not function properly. You may also invalidate your warranty if a traditional lead acid battery is fitted to a vehicle with stop start technology.
